I got on about 1991 and over the next 5-10 years saw a decline in the
quality of a lot of content. One old timer I keyboarded with told me that
all of the "old guard" have moved off to other channels (IRC, mailing
lists, majordomos, etc., whatever). Its like CB radio. The FCC took the
eleven meter band away from the hams and gave it to the CBers and what
passed for communications was a big step down in quality and purpose. I
hate to admit that there certainly is a larger fraction of riff-raff out
there than I'd like it to be.
