You have to be very careful with that if you value your permanent
position. Many organizations have policies as far as outside activity
is concerned. Violation of which my be a reason for termination. You
would better check that. Especially having in mind that there might be
publications as a result of your work and it would be difficult to
keep it invisible.

Another idea is that you might try to organize a joined project with
that person. Again many organization welcome joined projects with the
academic partners and with proper navigation inside internal politics
and using the right words to keep it as close as possible to the local
interests you might be successful.
